OnlineBenchmarks
Benchmarks involving CABLE coupled to a model of the atmosphere (and optionally the ocean).
ACCESS1.3 with CABLE-2.0 has been run from 1978 to 1997 with two sets of leaf optical properties (refl, taul). In the first case, refl and taul are the same values as those used in the ACCESS1.3 (with CABLE-1.8) simulation submitted to CMIP5 and described in Kowalczyk et al. (submitted to AMOJ). In the second case, refl and taul have been adjusted to improve the simulation of albedo, which was noted to be too low for some seasons and regions in the CMIP5 simulation.
Seasonal screen level temperature, precipitation and albedo are compared with ERA-Interim analyses and the results for the two CABLE-2.0 cases are compared with the results from the ACCESS1.3 CMIP5 case.
The albedo simulation is improved by the new values of refl and taul, while screen level temperature and precipitation are mostly similar across the two CABLE-2.0 cases and the CMIP5 case. There is some indication that northern hemisphere mid-latitude warm biases in June-August are reduced with CABLE-2.0, particularly with the new leaf optical parameters.
Further details and figures are in the attached document (below).
