Cable Agenda - 5th March 2019

  1. We’re going to trial resolving the 11 “trivial” tickets before discussion 2-7 (see below)

  2. Update the other committee members on the on steps taken since the previous meeting to fix the working trunk (CMIP6-MOSRS). Action items from previous meeting accomplished: Actioned

  3. Discuss any issue with now making this the head of the trunk?

  4. Discuss next steps towards a minimum objective test suite and indicate timeline (?). a. Institute Martin’s multi-config run script (I agree that “how” is open), and set up a corresponding PALS experiment for testing its results b. Add ACCESS CM2 compile and (very short, say 1 week) execute to multi-config script, since this version of CABLE (in theory) runs with CM2 c. Add (short) global offline runs to the multi-config run script, and set up PALS experiment (ILAMB or otherwise)

  5. Discuss the need to fix the CABLE offline output time variable. I think there are also issues with the time variable in general.

  6. Discuss steps to get CNP working.

  7. Discuss CABLE coding strategy in general. For e.g. There was an issue with Ying-Ping’s LUC and writing restart files that boiled down to a tension with “mp” format of CABLE vectors. In JULES this would not be an issue as they use much simpler format.

  8. Discussion tickets

Tickets to be resolved (I suggest we just work back in time, vaguely? It would be worth just dealing with a heap of trivial ones so we get the list down?):

Trivial-ish

  • GW model variables not declared when outputting

  • Many site runs using PLUMBER input files fail due to index error: is this also related to the time issue noted above?

  • NPP outputting for biogeophys only run trying to use a CASA variable

  • lakes and soil colour albedo parameterisation

  • temperature vs potential temperature

  • Some met variables 4D in site runs: Presumably this is required and this ticket should be rejected?

  • Tiled vegetation cannot be passed through met file

  • partitioning evaporation into evporation and sublimation

  • Calculate leaf-level photosynthesis rate in CABLE: suggest we contact the creator directly and see if this is still of interest and help them resolve?

  • update to cls package (#137)

  • clean up roughness variables
