March2017
Apologies: JK
- Review action items
- Documentation of namelist file (VH/JS) In progress
- Assess need for update of user guide on wiki, including what is covered in BeginnersGuide and FAQs in CableHelp
- Review #128 documentation for trunk update (RL) Done. Reformatted for easier reading and to fix two links.
- Merge #86 GSWP3 to current trunk (JS) Will be picked up as part of MD contribution. VH visiting UNSW to continue work with MD. GA noted that the final GCWP3 forcing dataset is only just ready for release, also an intercomparison experiment is associated with the dataset. Are we participating? There is a meeting in May.
- Set-up of 1000 points C-cycle test for general use (VH) Need to consider how to package for general use e.g. post-processing currently requires MatLab. Would be good to re-code, probably to python.
- Start producing Ticket Reports for review at committee meetings. Comprehensive report needed for March meeting (JS/RL) See below.
- Follow-up of CASA-CNP merge (JS/RL) JS making some progress
- Email CABLE list with information about committee restructure and request for feedback (RL) Done
- Update CommitteeRestructure wiki page based on committee discussion (RL) Done
- Follow-up MD progress with potential trunk contribution (VH?) As above, VH visiting MD next week to continue work on SLI and hydrology. SW has diagnosed reasons for slow run speed and looking for ways to improve. Changes from M. Cuntz for frozen soil also to be included.
- Follow-up on Jenkins work (JS/GA) JS to call NH next week.
- Make data location column for CableSimulations table (RL) Done
- Instructions for adding a vegetation type to be documented on wiki (JK/JS) JK distributed instructions by email. Still need to be put onto wiki.
- Committee restructure, feedback received, next steps
RL noted feedback received by email. Contributions from CC, AP, MdK, YPW, TZ, JK, BP, with EOI for coordinators position from VH and JS. Most feedback was mostly positive but noted the potential difficulty of finding enough people willing to contribute to a relatively large number of working groups. Need to have flexibility around working groups. Suggest having a committee member as contact point for each area and form working-groups as required. Initial contacts could be RL strategy/resourcing, VH science code, GA bench-marking, IH/JS CABLE coupling. Possibility of splitting coordinator role into science and technical and share between VH and JS. VH/JS/RL to meet and refine this idea. Next committee meeting to be relatively open, with email invite to potential new members of committee or those who could contribute to a working group. MdK, IH, PB, CC suggested.
- Ticket review
As part of reviewing tickets, JS had redefined the milestones to 6 Report (the default), 5 Validation, 4 Low priority, 3 Implementation, 2 Submission, 1 Closed. Validation (5) would be when the committee make an initial assessment/allocate tickets to individuals/working groups to implement (3) or to leave for now (4). Submission (2) would be for code changes that are ready for review and to be approved for inclusion in the trunk.
GA noted that this is different from a traditional use of milestones to define which changes are anticipated for which future releases. Unless/until we have a more defined release schedule this probably isn't a problem. May need to explore range of flags that can be attached to a ticket, e.g. version number is available and not generally used.
Recent tickets, #134, #135, #136, #137 are all code inconsistencies reported by IH.
- Cable consolidation and trunk updates
Current focus is on
- Merge of VH/MD code branches including SLI and hydrology
- CASA-CNP merge - need to check what tickets are in the system and their status
- *Bug fixes from IH and others *
- JS noted that #84 was related to CASA-CNP. It is documentation on spin-up rather than a code issue. VH to combine with her current documentation and put onto the wiki. *
- Cable offline (I/O working group)
The summer student project produced some interesting results comparing 3 hourly and half-hourly timestep simulations. Any interest in continuing this? What impact for carbon? Is there a cumulative effect?
A meeting is scheduled to discuss CABLE through LIS and future coupling plans given JULES-LIS coupling.
- Cable online
a) Coupling for ACCESS
UM10.5 running with CABLE, ~ 3 years. Output still to be checked. JS to follow up with MD.
UM10.6 crashing after ~ 2 days.
For CMIP6, need basic fixes then improved configuration. RL to check with TZ whether ACCESS-ESM1 has been run with Haverd flag.
- Benchmarking
PALS up on web for internal testing, not at official domain name yet. Aiming for switchable analysis engines e.g. iLambs (but slow to run). GA at meeting in May which will discuss use of PALS/iLambs for GSWP3 analysis. M Best keen to have LVT included.
- Meetings / conferences / workshops / video-conferences
Not urgent. Discuss a video conference at next meeting.
- Next committee meeting, Friday April 21st, 1.30pm
Agreed. RL to book webex and meeting rooms.
- Any other business
