July2016
- Trunk updates:
a) Updates this month - Problem with #2 and carbon resolved, trunk update (#102).
Note trunk log message has incorrect ticket number (101 instead of 102). JS working with NCI to resolve synching of svn repository with trac page, requires one of us to manage cable trac. JS happy to do this. Need to follow-up with NCI to get this implemented.
b) Updates in progress (stalled)
i) #62 (radiation/albedo bug fix, ASAP), #92 (if BP confirms), #66 (initialisation bug), #89 - Jenkins tests?
ii) SLI and POP and other VH/LN enhancements, #18, #61, #73, #93, #90, #94. RL reminded BP.
iii) #95 (and #44)
iv) #70 - ready to go in
*Little progress. Need to focus on the easy (small) fixes especially if they only apply to one type of application e.g. offline only. Challenge of priorities. Larger changes e.g. VH/LN enhancements to be discussed at code consolidation meeting (25/7). *
c) status of CABLE-AUX files e.g. cable.nml
RL asked BP/TZ to look at CABLE-AUX files from offline/online perspective respectively. JS noted work beginning to separate out offline met forcing into a different namelist file from the user options (more JULES-like structures). GA reported that NH would find the set-up of automatic testing (using NCI) much easier if the repository had a separate testing/applications directory. JS and NH to determine best option and implement, assuming little impact on other users. Noted that repository not suitable for storing met forcing files, just parameter files etc.
- CABLE community activities
a) Australian Academy of Science review - submission completed, RL attending consultation meeting 22/7
Thanks for contributions from the committee to the submission. GA unsure if attending Sydney consultation meeting.
b) Trunk consolidation/priorities meeting - 25/7. See notes: CodeConsolidation
Continue to encourage more information in tickets, as per guidelines, including what applications the changes have been test for and relevant instructions for use. Content of ticket should be reviewed for completeness as part of the trunk submission process. Need to include information about any parameter tuning that was done as part of the testing/application of changes and possible implications for other applications.
c) CABLE workshop - need? length? date? (MIPs coordination)
Wait and see what comes out of code consolidation meeting. If one day, most likely in Melbourne. Need to consider timing relative to other meetings and funding. Decision required next meeting.
- CABLE-JULES coupling
a) Progress with coupling into UM8.5 for ACCESS-CM2.
Still concerned with energy balance but may just be diagnostic/interface, internal to CABLE appears OK. Test with coupled model, crashes after 5 years, coastal point, need to confirm consistent land mask, vegetation files. Reproducibility issue to be resolved. Also issue with running with >256 processors (but similar problem with JS tests of UM with JULES).
b) CABLE in JULES4.2/UM10.1
In but doesn't run with floating point exceptions turned on (UM8.5 version does run with this compile option.
- Benchmarking/test suite
a) CABLE technical test suite – Jenkins work (NH), ACCESS tests
See above for comments on additional directory to facilitate automatic testing.
b) PALS
First testing of complete new system. November deadline looks safe.
- Meetings
a) AMOS conference 2017, special sessions accepted (land, land carbon)
Both sessions accepted. Look out for opening of abstract submission, perhaps late July, and encourage submissions.
- Next meeting date: Tuesday August 23rd, 2pm
GA not available Tuesday afternoon. Try for Wed 24th or 31st whichever doesn't clash with the ARCCSS land group meeting.
- Any other business
- YPW has offered to join committee, replacing EK. If committee takes on oversight of code consolidation then may be useful.*
