Message: Hi Rogier,

In attachment you can find the promised additional information. But before, I would like to add some things to that attachment.

List of common disruptions: you can relax the link with reality if your concept needs it to. Or keep it. Your choice. The important thing is that any disruption (real disruption from the list or an imagined one from your concept) ends up blocking a track segment and all the trams travelling there.

List of available interventions: These should be the main player actions. You can have multiple ones on top of that (slow down time, power ups, whatever, etc) but the core ones from the attachment need to be there.

Performance measures: there will be more clarified information later. But I think these are enough to influence your concept/design.

A final note on passengers. We mentioned our model does not include passengers yet (just specified waiting times at stations), and as such, we don't need the "game performance" to measure the impact on passenger satisfaction. However, you are completely free to add that. It would definitely be more interesting on the training and the game level, even if only on a small scale (less passengers, less stations, etc). Of course, you would have to add passengers to the simulation, even if you use our simulation or your own simpler one. The key comment is: At this point, we don't expect passengers from you, but don't let that lack of expectation stop you from wanting to add it ;) Feel free to make a decision.

Cheers, Ricardo

Information

HTM – traffic control information

List of common disruptions:

  • Vehicle collisions with each other or other traffic (cars, bus, etc)
  • Power down at parts of the track
  • Defect traffic lights (Traffic needs to be manually guided)
  • Defect vehicle (standing on the track or within depots)
  • Defect switch (unable to make certain turns)
  • Unavailability of driver due to sudden sickness

List of available interventions as they are currently used:

  • Rerouting lines from origin to destination
  • Cancel line parts by letting vehicles turn and continue the line in the opposite direction, only servicing back and forth until the point of disruption.
  • Cancel entire vehicle runs on lines
  • Provide travellers information and advise them.

Performance measures:

3 dimensions:

  • Recovery time until the normal situation
  • Scale of the impact (The extent to which lines where effected)
  • Size of the impact (How bad were the effects, i.e. two affected aspects: (i) additional travel time for the passengers; (ii) deviations from vehicle schedules)
