Main tools used by the BIRD query tools:

The second uses a search bar as the user input and parses the user inputs for engineering terms with Natural Language Processing (NLP). It then looks for exact matches, exact synonym matches, and partial matches to engineering terms in the NTRS thesaurus (Baumler, 2019). Note: It actually does not translate engineering terms to biology. Rather it looks for engineering terms in the user's query.
