Introduction boxes

Amanda Ho-Lyn edited this page Aug 22, 2023 · 9 revisions

Introduction boxes are available for Antiquarians, Works and Books. They all work in the same way but are displayed in slightly different places. @ mentions are available to use in the intro boxes. Introductions are not available for unknown works and books.

The antiquarian introduction is only available on the antiquarian detail page, where it can be edited. You can find a shortened version of the work introduction on the antiquarian detail page if it exists for that work. The full version is on the work detail page, as are the full length book introductions. Both the work and book introductions can be edited from the work detail page and added if they do not yet exist.

To edit an introduction, go to the antiquarian or work detail page and create an editing lock. The page should refresh and you should see the option to "Edit Introduction" above the introduction box. Note that if the introduction does not already exist the button will say "Add Introduction". This will take you to a new page with a text editor. Make updates as you wish and hit "Save", you should be redirected to the work page you started on.

Footnotes

Footnotes can be added to introduction boxes and original texts and will automatically order themselves when one is added or removed. To add a footnote, click the comment icon and a modal should appear with a text editor. You can use it much like the normal editor, though you will not be able to create footnotes within it. Mentions and, where relevant, apparatus critici are available. You can also add tables. To edit a footnote, click on it in the footnote section of the editor. You can cancel, save changes or delete the footnote, the latter option will also remove the corresponding indicator. You cannot insert a footnote inside a table.

Tables/Columns

Tables can be added to introduction boxes and original texts. In the editor they will appear as a table (with borders), and in the previews they will appear like columns (no borders). As standard, a 3x3 table will be created when the table+ button is clicked. To edit the contents of a cell, double click a cell and a modal will open with a text editor. If you choose to insert a table within a footnote, the editing of these cells' contents will open a dialog and not a modal. You can add more rows and columns to the table by selecting the corresponding option from the edit table dropdown. If there is an issue where this does not seem to work, ensure you click a cell within the table and try again. Similarly, if you want to delete a row or column, ensure the cursor is in the row/column you'd like to remove. Columns are always added to the right and rows to the bottom. You cannot insert a footnote within a table.
