PC Formats
This format was first used for the 1997 PC release, the format is also used for the Switch, PS4, XboxOne, Android and IOS ports. A single PC save holds 15 "slots" of saves. The names save00.ff7 - save09.ff7 are used for the files on all PC based platforms other then the Switch that uses the names ff7save00 - ff7save09
Depending on the version you have installed the path of the files will be different
<installDir>\saves\
<userDir>\Square Enix\Final Fantasy VII\user_<ID>\
<userDir>\Square Enix\Final Fantasy VII Steam\user_<ID\>\
<userHome>/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/39140/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Square Enix/FINAL FANTASY VII Steam/user_<ID>
Internal storage/Android/data/com.square_enix.android_googleplay.FFVII/file/Documents
If a metadata.xml is found with a save file it will be modified, Be sure to have the saves for these types in a path like shown above. Providing an incorrect userID will result in a bad signature and your saves will be removed from the server.
Q: I have the game for Android / iOS can edit my saves?
A: Yes, the Android / iOS version uses PC saves .
Q: How do I edit My Switch Saves?
A: You just need to use homebrew like Checkpoint to extract them from the system first.
Q: What about PS4 and XBoxOne Saves?
A: These Formats are assumed to be the same files as the PC Saves, However they are packed into a cryptographic blob that needs to be removed first. I Hope to support these formats as more is learned about them.
