a Linux Dustbin (Recycle-bin) for command line use How it works: 1. when 'rm' file/dir, it is moved to a Dustbin dir (default: $HOME/_DUSTBIN) other than do real delete; use 'RM' for real delete (the original Linux rm) 2. in Dustbin dir, "removed" files/dirs are orangized as: <Dustbin_dir>/<date_of_delete>/<deleted files or dirs>; The <deleted files or dirs> are renamed as <datetime_of_delete>_<original_name>, so that same file/dir that deleted at different time will not be overwritten. 3. use 'cddust' to go to Dustbin dir; use 'cddust_today' to go to Dustbin/<date_of_today> 4. cd Dustbin dir, use 'recover' to recover specified file/dir. 5. use 'clrdust' to clear the Dustbin-dir (do real deletion for all files in your Dustbin Dir) When it cannot work: 1. can't process the file/dir with Space-key (i.e. " ") in their name or their path. 2. If multiple files/dirs with same name are deleted at the same time, some errors may be caused. How to install: 1. download this directory, put it somewhere (e.g. in ~/script/) 2. set environment variable & alias as follows: a. If you are working on BASH, copy these lines in your ~/.bashrc ## on Dustbin export DIR_DUSTBIN=$HOME/_DUSTBIN #where the dustbin-dir is export DIR_DUSTBIN_SH=$HOME/script/Dustbin #where the script is alias RM=/bin/rm alias rm="$DIR_DUSTBIN_SH/mv_to_dustbin.sh" alias recover="$DIR_DUSTBIN_SH/recover_dust.sh" alias cddust="cd $DIR_DUSTBIN" alias cddust_today=". $DIR_DUSTBIN_SH/cddust_today.sh" alias clrdust="/bin/rm -rf $DIR_DUSTBIN/*" b. If you are working on CSH, copy these lines in your ~/.cshrc # on Dustbin setenv DIR_DUSTBIN $HOME/_DUSTBIN setenv DIR_DUSTBIN_SH $HOME/script/Dustbin alias RM /bin/rm alias rm "$DIR_DUSTBIN_SH/mv_to_dustbin.sh" alias recover "$DIR_DUSTBIN_SH/recover_dust.sh" alias cddust "cd $DIR_DUSTBIN" alias cddust_today "source $DIR_DUSTBIN_SH/cddust_today.csh" alias clrdust "/bin/rm -rf $DIR_DUSTBIN/*"
