There are lots of steps to onboarding a new chapter. Here's what needs to happen:
When someone fills out the new chapter form a new issue appears here and in the #github channel on Slack. Then we do these things:
Essential tasks:
- Send emails in response to new chapter inquiries that come to [email protected]. Say hi! And tell them to fill out the new chapter form!
- Add organizers to Slack (currently Alan does this, needs help)
- Add organizers to Github organization (currently Rafa and Brandon do this, but they need help)
- Create GitHub repo for new chapter (https://github.com/maptime/maptime-admin/blob/master/onboarding.sh)
- Add new chapter Twitter account to MaptimeHQ twitter list (currently Alan does this)
- Follow new chapter Twitter account from MaptimeHQ (currently Alan does this)
- Add chapter twitter integration to Slack #socialmedia channel (we haven't been keeping this up to date)
- Help new chapters who get stuck making chapter repos/websites
- Keep onboarding documentation current (this document!)
Things we used to do, but don't do anymore:
-
Approve requests to join maptime-organizers and maptime-announce email lists(we don't really use these anymore) -
Send stickers to new chapters(get your own here: https://www.stickermule.com/user/1070708614/stickers)
These are bonus things that would be nice to do if we can, but usually we don't do:
- Do a periodic check-in with chapter to see what they need
- Aggregate results from post-event survey
- Help chapters organize regional Maptime meetups
- Add new leads and chapters to Maptime Chapter Google spreadsheet
- Provide guidance for chapters on finding a meeting space
- Create @maptime.io email address for new chapters (Beth controls this?)
