Installation
This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to install the Virtual Display Driver (VDD) on your system. The VDD enables the creation of virtual displays, allowing you to run multiple graphical sessions or use headless displays for various applications.
Soon, we will release an easy-to-use installer for the Virtual Display Driver. This installer will simplify the process by automatically installing the necessary drivers and dependencies for your Windows 10 or Windows 11 system.
Once the installer is released, you can download it directly from the Releases page.

Windows 10 or Windows 11:
- Download and run the installer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Check if the Virtual Display Driver is correctly installed by running the following:
- Device Manager: Check "Device Manager" under "Display Adapters."
- Settings: Check display settings under system settings and see if the virtual displays show.
For those who want to manually install the Virtual Display Driver, follow these installation instructions carefully. This method is intended for advanced users who are comfortable with installing software manually.
Before proceeding, ensure that your system meets the following requirements:
- Operating System: Windows 10 or Windows 11
- Administrative privileges (for installing drivers)
- Go to the Virtual Display Driver Releases page.
- Download the latest beta release for Windows.
- Extract the downloaded
.zipfile to a folder on your system. - Copy the
VirtualDisplayDriverfolder and its contents toC:\VirtualDisplayDriver\before installing the driver. This step is important! - If you don't want to restart the driver or device, configure the XML here.
- Don't install the INF file directly. Instead, open Device Manager, click on any device, then click on the "Action" menu and select Add Legacy Hardware.
- Select Add hardware from a list (Advanced), then choose Display adapters.
- Click Have Disk... and browse to the extracted folder to select the
.inffile. - The driver should now be installed! Go to your Display Settings to customize the resolution of the additional displays.
- You can enable/disable the display adapter to toggle the monitors.
- If the installation fails or the driver doesn't seem to work, try reinstalling.
- If you encounter issues with the virtual display not appearing, ensure that the installer installed correctly. Uninstall through the control panel if using the installer, and then try the manual install.
