An AirBnB clone.
HolbertonBnB is a comprehensive web application inspired by AirBnB, merging database storage, a dynamic back-end API, and user-friendly front-end interfaces. Presently, the project boasts a robust back-end console, serving as the cornerstone for managing the application's functionality. Through this console, users can execute a plethora of operations, from creating and updating property listings to managing user profiles and bookings with ease. As development progresses, HolbertonBnB aims to enrich its offerings by incorporating a visually appealing front-end interface, complemented by seamless integration with a powerful back-end API. This holistic approach will ensure a delightful user experience and elevate HolbertonBnB to new heights in the realm of property rental management platforms.
HolbertonBnB supports the following classes:
- BaseModel
- User
- State
- City
- Amenity
- Place
- Review
The abstracted storage engine, as defined in the FileStorage class, handles the management of classes such as the ones described. Each time the backend initializes, HolbertonBnB
creates an instance of FileStorage
named storage
. This storage
object loads or reloads data from class instances stored in the JSON file file.json
. Whenever class instances are created, updated, or deleted, the storage
object records these changes in the file.json
file.
The console serves as a command-line interpreter enabling the administration of the backend for HolbertonBnB. It facilitates the management and manipulation of all classes employed by the application, accomplished through interactions with the storage
object as previously defined.
The HolbertonBnB console supports both interactive and non-interactive modes. To run the console in non-interactive mode, you can pipe command(s) into the execution of the console.py file via the command line.
$ echo "help" | ./console.py
(hbnb)
Documented commands (type help <topic>):
========================================
EOF all count create destroy help quit show update
(hbnb)
$
Alternatively, to use the HolbertonBnB console in interactive mode, run the
file console.py
by itself:
$ ./console.py
While running in interactive mode, the console displays a prompt for input:
$ ./console.py
(hbnb)
To quit the console, enter the command quit
, or input an EOF signal
(ctrl-D
).
$ ./console.py
(hbnb) quit
$
$ ./console.py
(hbnb) EOF
$
The HolbertonBnB console supports the following commands:
- create
- Usage:
create <class>
- Usage:

the instance is saved to the file file.json
.

- Usage:
Updates a class instance based on a given id with a given key/value attribute
pair or dictionary of attribute pairs. If update
is called with a single
key/value attribute pair, only "simple" attributes can be updated (ie. not
id
, created_at
, and updated_at
). However, any attribute can be updated by
providing a dictionary.
