Quickstart Guide
There are 3 requirements to setting up Media DL Assistant:
- Windows OS,
- Media DL Assistant,
- youtube-dl.exe
It is recommended to place the youtube-dl.exe file inside of the downloaded folder from the Media DL Assistant, which would make your file hierarchy look like this:
- youtube-dl-assistant-v1.x.x
└ youtube-dl-assistant.exe
└ youtube-dl.exe
└ ...
And that's it for the setup!
The following information is only valid for 1.x.x releases of the software. The Wiki will be rewritten for 2.x.x
In short, all you need is a Youtube link to what you would like to download. Here are the steps:
- Open youtube-dl-assistant.exe
- When prompted, paste your URL in the console.
- You will then see a number of options to choose from:
You are able to select what file type you need and (if possible) if you would like to download the video's thumbnail as well. 4. Hit ENTER, and wait for the download to complete. The file will then be placed inside the youtube-dl-assistant folder.
For users who would like more options, there is an "Advanced Settings" tab:
This option is available in case you would like to disable overwriting files with overlapping names.
If you need the video's description and metadata, the option makes it possible to download it directly.
In case you are downloading a large file which can take a while, you can choose to set the tittle as a status bar, meaning that you do not need to keep opening the program to check when it's done, since you will see it in the title.
For users who want to download numerous videos but don't want to keep setting everything up over and over again, you can choose to write your config and tell the program to always use it on startup, meaning that everything will be preset for you on next startup.
The debug mode is meant to display detailed information about the processes, which are not needed by regular users.
