What do we do first?

The first task you must accomplish if you want to maintain the site is fork this repository to your GitHub account and clone it to your computer. We do this in open source civic tech projects to prevent any unapproved changes or mistakes from affecting the original files.

Think of it as a checkpoint in a video game: if your character dies after going through the checkpoint, you can start from there instead of playing the entire game all over again. The original repository is the checkpoint and the fork is you either beating the level or needing to start back from where you were before.
