I added these changes to my system recently.
Seems to be working good.
However, I would suggest the following changes in texts:

-            syslog.syslog(syslog.LOG_INFO, "Reached temperature of " + str(temp) + " turning on fan")
+            syslog.syslog(syslog.LOG_INFO, "Turning on fan (" + str(temp) + " degrees).")

-            syslog.syslog(syslog.LOG_INFO, "Reached temperature of " + str(temp) + " turning off fan")
+            syslog.syslog(syslog.LOG_INFO, "Turning off fan (" + str(temp) + " degrees).")
