Fix broken update process

This fixes the broken update process due to running out of disk space:

• install the requirements first
• then maximize disk space (remove optionally installed, and unused things - e.g. mono, merge tmp space)
• checkout as normal

In my fork this passed as far as I have credentials...but I can't completely test.

Note:

• there are more things that can be dropped, but this seems like enough
• this is somewhat temporary, if the disk usage goes over again
