Main differences of their approach to ours:

  • they target free to read PDFs/ HTML, we go for Wikimedia-compatible licensing and JATS
  • they target the English Wikipedia only, while we want to link multiple Wikipedias with the English Wikisource as well as Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata
  • they basically cover all scholarly topics (by way of lots of repositories), we are so far focused on PMC (due to our focus on JATS)

There is a draft write-up for the Signpost at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/Newsroom/Special_desk/Proposals/Citation_templates_now_better_at_flagging_free_access_content .
