While the dataset is the critical path for WCMP2, some users will create child documents, and will require the ability to relate parent/child documents. One option is to consider link relations (up, related, collection, item, etc.) to associate records.

Where would you put this? In the links element which is described as:
Online linkages to data retrieval or additional resources associated with the dataset

Or somewhere else?

This would be in the links section. It also assumes infrastructure (i..e the link can be dereferenced). Would there be a case of referencing a parent/child whose metadata is not readily available on the Web?

No I can't see that use case (hope I understood it correctly). I am somewhat concerned on the overloading of this element which can create issues on both creation and parsing though.

TT-WISMD 2023-09-13:

  • different type of relationships (hierarchy, lineage)
  • rel=related, we could look into rel=original
  • we need to be careful not to introduce data hierarchies into the catalogue (granularity)
  • needs more research
