prefetch option as function?

prefetch is either a boolean or a function to determine if the query should be prefetched.

is this correct? prefetch as a function actually doesn't work. i was looking into the codes but i couldn't find out. apollo client's watchQuery also doesn't seem to have prefetch options. any help?
