The only reason I'm really even looking into logstash is because windows is so obtuse when it comes to logging; I need to get IIS and event handlers into something useful.

Hi,

I'm planning to add Windows support to the modules at some point but I'm afraid its not on a high priority at the moment.

I'm open for help to it though :-)

I totally understand the plight :) I'm trying to hack together something now- I'll post it if I can get it to work.

+1 for Windows support

Update: In the meantime, we found it easy to install the nxlog module via chocolately and then have a custom puppet module define the nxlog config file on the Windows hosts to ship files to a tcp input configured on the logstash server.

There's support to do log parsing on the nxlog side, but to be consistent with how we're parsing all the rest of the linux logs from other servers in logstash, we are having the logstash filter on the server side do the grok, grep, date parsing, etc. for the incoming nxlog entries. The only thing we do on the Windows hosts in the nxlog shipper config is drop things that are too verbose.
