I know for a fact that watching videos without GPU acceleration was not optimal MANY versions ago. There was tearing and lagging. Since then, the backend has been updated twice and now there is Metal support. So, I wonder if 1080p videos would play fine without GPU acceleration now? I am using a first gen M1 mac mini if that helps.
I have found many freezes and a few crashes when using GPU acceleration with a Linux guest, but never with no acceleration. I guess I just wanted an answer from a performance angle. Like, will the new backend handle video without needing a GPU accelerated emulated card? Also, there have been a few changes with the recommended card to use. What is the current recommendation for an arm Linux guest?
