Describe the bug
I’m not the only person this is happening to, but, in my case, I applied to write notes as soon as the feature was opened to the public, and now, over a year later, there has been inaction on the application. Not even a notification/email indicating “you’ve been rejected and here’s why”. I’ve been able to rate notes whenever they appear on my timeline, but not once has it given me the chance to write one.

To Reproduce
Apply at https://twitter.com/i/flow/join-birdwatch. If it works, you are not affected.
If it doesn’t work, congratulations, you are probably in the same boat as me.
A few people I know are in the program indicated they were immediately approved, with no waiting period whatsoever.

Expected behavior
Approval or rejection should happen in a timely manner, not take 1+ year with nothing happening.
If Approval will take a while, it should indicate so when someone attempts to apply, and it should have a mechanism to delete old applications from the backend, as I legitimately believe mine is stuck in some process in the backend.

Environment
I have tried and failed to get my application to push through on both the website and applications on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, For web, I have attempted Safari and Google Chrome.

Additional context
This isn’t a case of me trying to get into the program and abuse it. I’ve even voted “note helpful” on posts that oppose my political worldview if it’s accurate because I think that the truth matters. Ultimately, my posting of this issue is me being sick and tired of having to reply my equivalent to a community note and legitimately wanting to help the team out.
