"Endless Mode" Begins Prior to reaching 2048

I'm unsure if this behavior is intentional, but I've noticed that playing on Android 13 if you leave your finger resting on a tile for more than a second or two, "endless mode" appears (though this behavior seems pretty sporadic) which I've only seen otherwise when reaching a 2048 tile or larger.
