I will be on holiday soon so unfortunately I won't be able to work much on the project until January. I've been working on addon-react-native-web recently but I haven't forgotten about this project. I actually feel that they can combine pretty well as you can see here https://github.com/dannyhw/expo-storybook-starter.
I do plan on making a push to get 6.0 out there once I get the free time to do so.
There will probably be some caveats with this:
I will likely ship without the server, however I will try to get websockets working so that someone could make a community package if they wanted. Unfortunately I just haven't had time to work on the server and I don't want to delay the release further. Breaking changes are coming for storybook and this could be problematic if we're stuck behind, 6.4 is already breaking for project and will require fixing before a release can be done.
Storybook 6.4 is breaking for react native and probably only versions 6.4+ will work with react native storybook once it is made to be compatible. However I think it's better to release with 6.4 support than to release with 6-6.3 support and no 6.4 support.
I think I will likely take the approach to release and then bugfix, the reason being that there isn't enough users on alpha to really get an idea of what issues there are. This doesn't mean that I intend to release a buggy mess however I can only test so much on my own.
The main thing stopping me from releasing right now is missing documentation and 6.4 compatibility, that will be my focus once I get back.
Please if anyone is interested in helping maintain the project let me know because I really don't have as much time as I would like to work on this project currently. I only work on the project in my free time and it's un-sponsored work so I can't always make time for it, having a few other people involved would really take some pressure off 🙏 .
Anyway Merry Christmas all, sorry I couldn't deliver 6.0 for Christmas this year 😄 but I think we're pretty close. Thanks for your patience :).
