Documentation states that

we cannot use standard and complementary pins simultaneously. Luckily, typestates enforce this for us.

I'm not sure why somebody thought, that they can not be used simultaneously, but actually it disabled intended mcu feature, which was intended to control motors and other half-bridge loads, providing additional features like hardware dead-time insertion etc. And this is one of primary applications stm32f3xx is designed for
