Release: V1.0 - Public Version

WHAT IS MAVERICC?

MAVERICC is a detection AI model, based on a large YOLO-v7 backbone and my own synthetic data pipeline. The basic model shared here, which is the only one published as FOSS at the moment, is capable of detecting ONLY PLANES in high resolution satellite imagery.

The complete version (not free) can detect 16 classes, the same ones as my WALDO model:

car / van / truck / human / gas tank / digger / container / bus / utility pole / boat / bike / smoke / solar panels / military vehicle / plane

This free model is only trained for "plane" class.


WHERE IS MAVERICC?

Due to the size of the model files and the constraints of github LFS the files are no longer stored directly on Github, please download the latest package using the link below: https://bit.ly/3MMNNwZ


FOR AI NERDS !

It's a big set of YOLOv7 model, trained on my own datasets of synthetic and "augmented" / semi-synthetic data. I'm not going to release the dataset for the time being.

This public release comes with a full-sized Yolov7-e6e .pt model file.


HOW CAN I START WITH MAVERICC?

  1. Clone the Yolov7 repo into your MAVERICC folder:

git clone https://github.com/WongKinYiu/yolov7.git

  1. install requirements for yolov7

cd yolov7 pip3 install -r requirements.txt

  1. run MAVERICC using the detect.py script, pointing to the model weights file and to your image folder:

python3 detect.py --weights ../V7-e6e/yolov7-M1-planeOnly-960--e6e-bs20-150it/yolov7-M1-planeOnly-960--e6e-bs20-150it.pt --source ../input_images/ --project ../output_images/ --conf-thres 0.1

In the example above we are running the model with a confidence threshold of 0.1. Check out the command-line arguments in the detect.py file to see how you want to use it!

  1. Check out some cool outputs in yout ../output_images/ folder!

PRO TIP: for large images use a sliding-window inference mecanism, slicing the input images into smaller pieces.

See below, this is with some smart sliding windo inference: prediction_visual

Now the same image processed "naively" with the network: Heathrow-London

Notice the sliding-window inference catches the small obects much better, despite this image being super low-rez:
