Using uname will lead to the same issue as described in BastilleBSD/bastille#393 and https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=276763. I'd say you should use freebsd-version, no?

Interesting - I've never encountered this case. As soon as this is fixed upstream, I'll pull in the changes and make a new release. Thanks for reporting!
