Create a vritual env for Symfony and Laravel projects. Highly inspired by the python virtualenv activate scripts, currently tested for bash, fish-shell and z-shell.
Make sure Composer is installed globally, as explained in the installation chapter of the Composer documentation.
Open a command console, enter your project directory and execute the following command to download the latest stable version of this bundle:
$ composer require sk/symfony-venv
In your project root dir run:
$ . vendor/bin/activate
$ . vendor/bin/activate.fish
You are now able to call the console
and other scripts located under your projects /bin
directory from everywhere. If you additionaly installed symfony-console-autocomplete
globally the autocompletion for the console should work too.
~/P/website-api $ . vendor/bin/activate
website-api (dev) ~/P/website-api $ console <TAB><TAB>

The command e
set the APP_ENV environment variable. For older symfony installations, the SYMFONY_ENV is also set.
On activation the variable is initial set to dev
on symfony, or local
for laravel. The vars are not unset on
deactivation.
website-api (dev) ~/P/website-api $ e prod
website-api (prod) ~/P/website-api $
The venv adds also a shortcut for console cache:clear
: ccc
website-api (dev) ~/P/website-api $ ccc
// Clearing the cache for the dev environment with debug true
// Warming up cache...
// Removing old cache directory...
// Finished
[OK] Cache for the "dev" environment (debug=true) was successfully cleared.
website-api (dev) ~/P/website-api $
To deactivate the virtual environment all you have to do is to deactivate it:
$ deactivate
If symfony-console-autocomplete is available in $PATH, the autocompletion is generated automatically for the console.
Caution: If new commands are added to the console, they will not be recognized until the next activation.
When contributing to this repository, please first discuss the change you wish to make via issue, email, or any other method with the owners of this repository before making a change.
Please note we have a code of conduct, please follow it in all your interactions with the project.
- Ensure any install or build dependencies are removed before the end of the layer when doing a build.
- Update the README.md with details of changes to the interface, this includes new environment variables, exposed ports, useful file locations and container parameters.
- Increase the version numbers in any examples files and the README.md to the new version that this Pull Request would represent. The versioning scheme we use is SemVer.
- You may merge the Pull Request in once you have the sign-off of two other developers, or if you do not have permission to do that, you may request the second reviewer to merge it for you.
