Open an empty tin buffer and type out a bunch of ASCII until a few chars before the editor starts scrolling horizontally. Then make the editor scroll horizontally a couple of character widths by entering a few unicode characters (e.g., ∆∆∆∆∆). Hit return. Last character of the first line turns into a �.
