We are planning to remove some table batched embedding (TBE) optimizers from FBGEMM_GPU in an attempt to reduce the build time and resources. We would like to hear your thoughts on our plan. The following table contains the list of optimizers that FBGEMM_GPU will:
Continue to support without any changes (denoted “C”). We will support both functionality and performance of these optimizers.
Continue to support only functionality but not performance (denoted “E”). We will support only functionality but the performance of these optimizers will be degraded. (We do not have any plans to remove these optimizers soon.)
Remove the support (denoted “R”). We will remove the optimizer kernel/function code but keep the backend API for backward compatibility. (Once the frontends in FBPKGs are updated, we will safely remove the backend API.)
We plan to start doing this on May 8, 2023. We will first start with the “R” optimizers and then the “E” ones. We hope to complete all the changes by the end of H1 2023.
