I can probably organize a german translation. See also similar issue #76 "spanish version".
AFAIK looking at https://github.com/hotosm/learnosm/tree/gh-pages/_posts these pages must be reorganized (having subdirectories for each language and some config. adapted).
@geomantic ? @mikelmaron ?

I welcome your offer of a German translation. But what needs to be done to reorganized the _posts directory? Is it simply a matter of create the subdirectories (e.g. _de, _en, _fr, etc.) and migrating existing content to new directories?

Thanks. I'm new to Jekyll and thought that there's more to do except creating subdir (e.g. _de) in _posts/ and editing all-translation.json .

I recently did this for https://github.com/MissingMaps/missingmaps.github.io. You can peruse the pattern I put in place.

We obviously missed to translate probably the 3 most important files *-contribute.md, *-index.md and *-status.md (no idea why "0100-01-01-" is used as a prefix). Hope this solves the issue.

This may help with setting up any other translations into other languages - https://github.com/Nick-Tallguy/Nick-Tallguy.github.io/wiki/Languages-DRAFT (At some point I'll get it onto the main LearnOSM wiki!)

Thanks Nick. Just talked to Maggie C. before her talk at SotM in Brussels. I hope with the german translation the way is open now for other translations. This is something you could add to your help pages: One of the gotchas was the encoding of the edited files wich must be UTF-8 and no BOM (which is invisible).

Thanks Stefan. After sotm I think we have seven potential additional translations pending so if we can share the workflow that would be great. A few folks new to github though think that will be a major hurdle? Thanks again and it was nice to meet you!

Maggie

Maggie,

I'm finding Transifex great, but I try to have the same content in each
language.

Whatever you decide I'm happy to help where I can. I'm on a train for a
couple of hours later and can add Spanish during the journey if that helps.

I'll try to draft out a few points for your team to discuss.

I've been trying to simplify the setting up of new languages on LearnOSM and have created
https://github.com/Nick-Tallguy/LearnOSM-language-helper
which automates much of the process of setting up.

In case you are interested in something similar, I have started to setup a similar 'helper' for TeachOSM at https://github.com/Nick-Tallguy/TeachOSM-language-helper

I've paused while waiting to see if this would be of any use and for any discussion on amendments if needed.
