Description of issue

Hi!

As Homebrew seems to be able to reliably deduce the version from the formula's URL, I wonder if the same applies to a resource? I Homebrew able to deduce a resource's version?

I guess I could easily do this manually by inspecting the URL, but was wondering if Homebrew is already able to do so.

Yes, the version of a resource can also be deduced from the URL. See clang-format.rb for example, where we have:

odie "clang resource needs to be updated" if build.stable? && version != resource("clang").version
