As a site visitor, I want the site to have an appealing design

We should probably put some thought into the aesthetics of this site.

Okay, made a first stab at improving the front page. (Design is inconsistent, currently.)

I think it would be good to have some more pictures on the site. Mugshots of the contributors would be an obvious way to do that (if they agree, of course). The logos of the projects involved are another possibility.

That's a good idea. Do you have suggestions for where to put the images? We could easily fit them into the individual stories (they could just be a standard size, and go in via markdown) or with a bit more work we could incorporate them into the front page, author pages, etc.

Unrelatedly, having been away from the site and come back, I think the blue in the links is unreadably light. I like having the splash of color but it'll need to be changed.

I think it's worth incorporating them into the front page - that's the first thing people are going to see, and it does look a bit text heavy at the moment.

Agreed about the links. Also, maybe make it more obvious that the story titles on the front page are links.
