Improve robustness for slow, high-latency internet connections

See #52 as an example where a user had issues due to timeouts. It seems that the issue can come up when, for some reason, the connectivity to a given mirror is less than ideal, even though the mirror is located near the user.

Look into this issue more closely and see if this is something where Flexo can be made more robust.
