Support of inclusion of SCHISM into UFS-Coastal. Three tasks are defined for this project:

  • Development: Contributions (past/present) to the SCHISM repository in the model's source code and in the NUOPC code, to ensure flawless integration in CoastalApp and in the transitioned UFS-Coastal application.
  • Testing: Run UFS-Coastal/SCHISM based regression tests on Orion, Hera and ParallelWorks (in that order) to verify the integrity of the system. Comparisons/Analyses with real data is a requirement.
  • Consultation: Offer consultation to both SCHISM and NCAR developers on SCHISM internals, compilation and model requirements (e.g., libraries, compilers, etc).

The latest version of SCHISM has been tested using CoastalApp and CoastalApp-testsuite. Need to update UFS-Coastal with the newest version of SCHISM. UFS-Coastal needs to point to a commit to the upstream SCHISM repo. Pending is to test/check if both USE_ATMOS and USE_PAHM flags can be activated at the same time (Joseph and I testing on this). It is advisable to have USE_PAHM active during compilation. The internal PaHM module is used only when both nws=-1 and USE_PAHM is active.

SCHISM in UFS-Coastal has been updated (sources) along with its latest test cases. The test cases have been updated to use the latest namelist files in SCHISM. Within the next few days (from 11/27/2023) the updated PaHM sources will be pushed into SCHISM. It is suggested at this point all projects and development efforts to use the same commit so bugs/issues can be addressed more easily.
