Contact > Linkage field should not be * mandatory?

Why is the linkage field in the contact list mandatory?
Should the asterix be removed from the contact block.

also the linkage elements child element is , but it is free text....
should the linkage text for this field be changed to website, url?
also, if linkage field name must stay, the tool tip must me updated.

Add a new record
In Basic view, add a new Contact
Scroll down to view the Linkage field and note its appearance
Validate the record with a blank Linkage field

Result
The record validates. Linkage has the asterisk for required field yet does not seem to be required. A user has reported being confused by this field and its tooltip. "Needs more context"

Expected result unknown. Should it be required? Should all links be in the sidebar?
