How to load an image?

I see an example in Issue 1113 that points to here, unfortunately that doesn't seem to work anymore. I've searched online for a few examples, and similarly they all seem to not be working. How would one go about doing this? Sorry if this is covered in the docs, I did a search for images but didn't seem to see anything relevant.
