A 1 block thick, 3 blocks wide, 4 blocks tall item, that is placed in the ocean with a large body of water that generates energy.
Where should it be placed?
It should be placed in an ocean or water heavy biome, and should generally generate more power the closer to sea level (Y-level) height you are, the sweet spot should be placed a few blocks under the surface of sea level.
Why should it generate more power there?
In real life, ocean currents are stronger near the surface mainly due to wind and the Earth's rotation. Wind blowing across the ocean's surface creates friction and transfers some of its energy to the water, causing it to move. Additionally, the Earth's rotation, known as the Coriolis effect, deflects these currents, making them even stronger and more organized near the surface.
Limitations?
If it's the water turbine is too close to another water turbine or blocks are in its general area where water should be, energy production lowers.
If placed in the air, no energy is generated, that's what wind turbines are for.
If placed in a non-ocean biome, no energy is generated, as there wouldn't be any current to move the turbine. This prevents abuse of making a large source of water, and just placing it anywhere.
How much space should the hydroelectric generator need to function at max efficiency?
This is up to the mod developers, whatever makes the most sense to them.
Potential non-ocean biomes?
River
Frozen River
Swamp
Mangrove Swamp
Beach
Snowy Beach
Stony Shore
Y-level of maximum energy production should be adjusted for each biome. Although, it is debatable if swamp biomes should produce much energy, if any at all.
Please note, I'm aware this is a long term thing, that guys are in like a kind of maintenance phase and the new content won't come out for a while, its just a potential generator for hydro, more to complete the energy sources if anything.
