Picom compositor transparency cannot be set in VirtualBox

Affected terminals

The issue persists with all tested terminals (Alacritty, st, etc.)

Physical machine

Picom transparency works on a physical machine without any issues whatsoever

Picom: VSync

Disabling VSync in ~/.config/picom/picom.conf did not solve the issue

VirtualBox: 3D acceleration

Enabling 3D Acceleration with VBoxSVGA graphics controller did not solve the isue

  • VirtualBox guest additions: virtualbox-guest-utils
  • ViurtalBox kernel modules: vboxservice, vboxguest, vboxsf, vboxvideo
  • Intel: xf86-video-intel, xf86-video-vmware, mesa
