How to show month number instead of their name?

I want to make some changes to the month's list.
showing the month numbers instead of their names. or next to each other. and display their names in 3 letters. For example:

• 1 Jan
• 2 Feb
  .
  .
  .
• 12 Dec
  How can I do that? Is there any way to pass the array of months in this format?
