Right now, we cover a lot of this in the @type tag docs. It'd be best to create a new page about JSDoc type expressions, then refer to that page wherever we discuss type expressions.

Per jsdoc/jsdoc#1104, try to distinguish between the canonical syntax (like {(number|string)}) and the variations that we tolerate (like {number|string}).
