Bottom Plates didn't seem to generate correctly #61

I used the build mentioned in #46. When running Full output:When attempting to open either I am actually not sure if this shape is accurate to the design of the dactyl keyboard. I assumed the bottom would be fully closed, but this looks more like a gasket that I could do without. When attempting to render this in OpenSCAD so I can export as an STL, I end up with a 2D model:
Any help would be appreciated! I recognize that this may be a case of me being unfamiliar with OpenSCAD. |

The "filled" base plate generation function is not yet implemented for "solid" engine. In the clojure version, they generate the plate by filling all the holes in the model: switch holes and screw holes, so that the projection in the xy-plane is filled up. Then extrude the projection and difference with the screw holes. |

There is no way to generate this in the solid engine at the moment. The solid method matches the original clojure which is load what you are showing and save a dxf. It isn't pretty, but can make dxfs for plate cutting or to be manually manipulated. The solid engine has no geometry inspection and the generation method builds a surface through the Z-plane and cuts it so there is no direct information on the geometry to create a plate from. This is because the solid engine is basically a transpiler to OpenSCAD so the geometry doesn't "exist" in 3D until you open it in OpenSCAD. On the other hand, the cadquery engine actually generates the geometry on the fly which is why it takes longer. As the geometry has an internal representation, the cadquery engine has geometry inspection which allowed me to build the better base plate. I use the inspection features to find the inner and outer surfaces and the screw locations to make separate extrusions and generate a solid plate geometry. |
