For example, when converting html to tex, how can I ignore the <footer> elements with lua filters?

You could try to get the native output to identify the Pandoc AST structure and then by writing Lua filters to modify them.

$ echo '<body><footer>text</footer></body>' | pandoc -f html -t native
[ Plain [ Str "text" ] ]

$ echo '<body>text</body>' | pandoc -f html -t native
[ Plain [ Str "text" ] ]

<footer> is simply ignored. Should this be considered as a bug?

I tried the following html text:

        <h1>Welcome to My Web Page</h1>
    </header>
    <main>
        <p>This is the main content of the page.</p>

    <footer>

</html>

Then running the command pandoc test.html -t native -o test.txt, I got the following contents:

It seems the footer is regarded the same as the general paragraph. I have no idea how to ignore it with Lua filter, sorry. You may need post-processing steps.
