MPD.conf adjustments - advice requested

I've taken the suggested mpd.conf and changed it, I assume bind/port will need to be set in order for me to connect from different pc via mpc. As for the alsa output, is that mixer line the only one needed to allow changing the volume for the alsa output on my usb audio card. I'm going to be running this from an hp thinclient. can an mpd server bind to both an ip and a socket? Do I need to do that to make it work. I still want the httpd functionality, sometimes I want to use my receiver and it's speakers instead of my laptop headphones,
