On IRIS-HEP Slack @gordonwatts noted

I just searched for "python using it for HEP analysis at the LHC" - one of the top hits I got back was our iris-hep analysis systems page. Perhaps we might add at the top of that page [a] "go here to get started with python in HEP" link?

This is a very good idea and something should get added. I would assume that this would be Scikit-HEP related given the strong overlap, but I'm interested if @klieret already has suggestions on existing pages that are training related that would make sense as well.

We could point to the scikit-hep tutorial that we already have (and which links to a lot more resources)

This doesn't strike me as a very welcoming landing page... maybe something with a bigger picture view?

@davidlange6 do you have something particular in mind? If not, probably having something linked is better than nothing.

Additional feedback on getting something better is obviously very welcome.

No..but presumably one wants to welcome both those experienced with python and beginners (landing on a tutorial definitely targets beginners)

Hm, I think we might be talking about two different kinds of pages. From @gordonwatts's message it seemed to me that a

go here to get started with python in HEP

page assumes that the person is a beginner with using the Pythonic HEP ecosystem (if they are already experienced, then they know about the existence of Scikit-HEP and the IRIS-HEP projects and wouldn't be using this type of search terminology). If users want an introduction to Python that's something else altogether and I don't think we need to be responsible for directing people to that information.

The Scikit-HEP Tutorial was written by @jpivarski originally and from my (albeit biased) take on reading through it it assumes that you're already familiar with programming in Python (though it does have a "How much Python do we need to know?" intro section) but that you want a first guided tour of common HEP operations in the Scikit-HEP ecosystem.

A landing page that is about advanced topics or demonstrators of full Pythonic workflows in HEP is fine, but seems to be different in scope. A lot of these topics are already covered by the AGC which thanks to @ekauffma and @alexander-held now has its own (growing) docs. I guess the question is then "Is it clear to the advanced user that these resources already exist or do they need help finding them?".
