need to change firebase config to

import firebase from "firebase/app";
import "firebase/auth";
import "firebase/firestore";

for anyone using firebase ver 9, this works for me:

import firebase from 'firebase/compat/app
import 'firebase/compat/auth
import 'firebase/compat/firestore

const config = {...}

const client = firebase.initializeApp(config)

export default client
