Disable auto-select the first item on suggestion

How can I disable auto-select the first item on suggestion until I press a key like <tab>, <down>, ...?

I ran into this issue as well. The vim default settings are completeopt=menu,menuone,noselect, but the preselect mode was not being set correctly. I also had to specify completion.completeopt to fix it. I'm not sure if this is a bug in nvim-cmp

I, too, want to say that adding completion = { completeopt = "menu,menuone,noselect" } disables preselection, and it does so without preselect = cmp.PreselectMode.None. I'm configuring NvChad for the second time and tripping over this problem for the second time as well.

I have an update. I'm using ray-x/go.nvim for Go and mrcjkb/rustaceanvim for Rust and for some reason after providing the default capabilities and on_attach they still preselect some entry (although capabilities and on_attach shouldn't change this behavior). Turns out, adding preselect = cmp.PreselectMode.None, fixes the problem. But for all other (manually configured) LSP servers, the completion = { completeopt = "menu,menuone,noselect" }, is still enough. So the best thing to do is to just write both lines and don't have any problems down the road:

  preselect = cmp.PreselectMode.None,
  completion = { completeopt = "menu,menuone,noselect" },

@Andrew15-5 refer to the first entry in the nvim-cmp FAQ in the docs, "Why does cmp automatically select a particular item?" which explains why some of your LSPs were still preselecting a completion.
