Using the bootia32.efi from the file https://sites.google.com/a/montleon.com/home/EFI.tar.gz
(available from the site mentioned as "inspiration"), I had no real problem booting a 2006 (black) Core Duo macbook into tails 1.1.1. (I read the shell script, and performed the main steps by hand. It would be quite easy to adapt the script for these prehistoric, but still usable (and common) laptops.)
The video and wifi seemed to work OK. I didn't try sound.
The trackpad was pretty nasty though. I had to use the scrollbars to scroll (no great problem), but after the laptop fell asleep, the trackpad didn't seem to work at all. The keyboard was fine, but not much help.
Many thanks for this interesting repository. I had no problems booting off a USB stick on a (n equally elderly) PC.
