When exploring ways to build a community around Frigg, we considered creating a stand-alone Slack team for discussions. We also thought about a Discord server.
There are many advantages to either when first coalescing an open source community, and we're not ruling either out in the long-term.
However, Github Discussions provide a simple and seamless user experience for the developers who will fuel Frigg's growth and success. Keeping everything Frigg-related in a single spot makes sense in these early days.
If you're like us, you will want to receive notifications whenever new discussions are sparked here in this forum. Here's how you can achieve some basic notifications:
Integrate Discussions with Slack and Microsoft Teams (Feb 2022)
Unfortunately Github's "off the shelf" integration only supports notifications when new Discussion threads are created, or when one is marked as "Answered."
If you're interested in a higher frequency of alerts (i.e. new replies to a thread you've posted), you'll need to rely on email notifications (configurable through your Github settings) OR use Discussion webhooks with Zapier's Webhooks (or some other similar eventing tool).
As our community grows, we'll add or replace forums and tools to meet the needs of the developers working to make Frigg successful. Definitely post to our Ideas category if you have suggestions.
