That's not possible at the moment.
We would need to implement something like hypercwd

I believe we just let xterm.js handle that. Maybe they have a plugin.

I was also able to accomplish this haphazardly via rebinding the ctrl+shift+t keyboard shortcut to the duplicate tab function. It's still hacky though because clicking + still goes to the default working directory. 😢
